Bakery distributors in Houston

One supply house on this page states that its team is fluent in English, Spanish and Khmer. That is a supplier describing its own customers, and it is the shortest way to say what this trade is: an immigrant business in at least six languages, where the largest single wholesale account type is the donut shop. Twenty-six suppliers, each checked against its own site.

  • 26 suppliers, verified in September 2026, all with a facility inside the Houston metro.
  • Six of them bake nothing: they sell flour, mixes, fillings and packaging to bakers. Two addresses are blank rather than guessed, and one row is written from newspaper reporting because the company's own site blocks capture. Each says so.
  • No paid placements and no rankings. Filter by what they make, who they sell to and how you can buy.

Sysco Houston

National broadlineGreens CrossingEst. 1970

The operating company where Sysco began. It now serves more than 6,000 customers from a site expanded by 185,000 square feet, carrying over 13,000 products across 12 categories, and it holds a Texas shellfish shipper certificate. Bakery and bread is one of Sysco's named product categories.

There is no delivery and no minimum order: you drive there, load a trolley and pay, seven days a week. Five Houston-area Restaurant Depot warehouses hold Texas shellfish shipper certificates on the federal interstate list against four published warehouses, which is the evidence that these branches carry seafood, because the company's own copy does not say so.

Bread Man Baking Co.

Regional distributorEst. 2018

A commercial artisan bakery producing premium breads for restaurants, hotels and retailers across multiple states. Its founder left corporate work in 2018 to open a first commercial bakery on Stella Link, and a new plant on Gellhorn Drive opened in December 2021 that raised output from 5,000 pieces a day to as much as 30,000, at a cost of about $3.5 million including $2 million of new equipment. More than 170 restaurants buy from it, including in Dallas and San Antonio, and it is carried in Whole Foods across Texas and in selected H-E-B stores. Its own site returned a bot challenge on five paths across two engines, so this listing is written from dated newspaper reporting and no zip code is published, because two third parties disagree on it.

A tortilla manufacturer in Aldine that says it produces the highest-quality homemade-style tortilla products in Houston. This is the thinnest listing on the page and the reason is worth stating plainly: its entire live site is one page, and it names no trade customer at all. It is listed because it is a manufacturer with trade hours rather than a retail counter, and because it is one of only two tortilla producers this research verified in the metro.

An immigrant trade in at least six languages, and the supply houses prove it

Start with the number that explains the rest. According to reporting on a short documentary about the trade, an estimated 90 percent of Houston's doughnut shops are owned by Cambodians, and as many as 95 percent of Texas doughnut shops overall, a livelihood taken up by people who escaped the Khmer Rouge between 1975 and 1979. One man in that reporting has helped over twenty Cambodian families open their own shops.

Now look at what a supplier on this page says about itself. Texas Bakery Supply's Houston home page states that its team is fluent in English, Spanish and Khmer. That is the supply chain agreeing with the demography, in a supplier's own words, on its own site, and it is the single most useful sentence this research found. Croissants Wholesale, 600 accounts strong, lists donut shops first among its customers.

The rest of the languages are on the companies' own pages too. Panificadora Lempira was founded by two brothers from San Pedro Sula who learned the recipes in Honduras and now distribute Central American bread to more than 100 grocery stores. Arandas Bakery opened on Airline Drive in June 1993 to share the flavors of Jalisco and now has six locations and a national distribution arm. Roland's has baked Swiss pastry here since 1962. Quality Bakery Products is owned through a German group, and Slow Dough traces its family to a bakery established in Weisloch, Germany in 1886, arriving in Houston in 2009 by way of New York, Chicago and Illinois. The Bagel Shop Bakery has supplied the trade since 1975 and lists churches and synagogues among its accounts.

One thread on this page is not verified and is labelled as such. The operator comments below are emphatic that a particular bakery supplies many of the city's banh mi shops, and Houston has a large Vietnamese bakery trade along Bellaire Boulevard. No Houston Vietnamese bakery we captured makes a wholesale claim on its own site, and one candidate's domain has expired. So that is presented here as what the corpus says, and it is not turned into a supplier listing.

The kinds of supplier on this page

Six of these twenty-six bake nothing and sell to bakers instead, three are dessert and frozen manufacturers producing under other companies' labels, three are panaderias and Latin American bread houses, and eleven are wholesale bakeries. Sorting by type matters because the largest company on this page and the one with 600 croissant accounts are answering completely different questions.

The count column is computed from the listings above. The rest describes how each business model typically works, not a term any individual company has published. Minimums and delivery days are always set per account, so treat this as a shortlist tool, not a quote.

The oldest bread plant in Houston is a thrift outlet, and nothing that bakes is older than 1962

Houston's oldest continuously used wholesale bakery site is on Washington Avenue, it trades under the Sunbeam name, and it belongs to Flowers Foods. That much is confirmed across four separate sources: the address, the phone number, the names Sunbeam and Schott's, and the Flowers link. Beyond those facts the account comes from a Houston retail-history site rather than the company, so this page attributes it: that site records Schott's Bakery being established by the Schott family in 1893, with Mr Schott baking at home and delivering by horse-drawn cart; contract baking from early on; Sunbeam becoming the exclusive brand as brands nationalised; a bakery thrift store opening in the 1960s, likely the city's first; and Flowers buying Schott's in 1981.

Whatever the detail, the shape is clear and it matches the pattern this directory has found in Dallas, Los Angeles, Baltimore and Philadelphia. The biggest name in the city's baking history is owned somewhere else, and what remains of the original site is an outlet store. Mrs. Baird's, which also had a Houston plant, belongs to Grupo Bimbo.

What is left that actually bakes wholesale is young. The oldest is Roland's Swiss Pastry, 1962. Then a long gap: The Bagel Shop Bakery in 1975, Arandas in 1993, Kraftsmen in 2001, Slow Dough in 2009, Panificadora Lempira in 2014, Magnol in 2019. Two of the biggest names on the page, Slow Dough and Cake&Bacon, are effectively products of the last fifteen years, and Cake&Bacon's co-owner trained at Slow Dough and at a Dallas bakery this directory also lists.

That youth is not a weakness for a buyer, it is a different risk. There is no century-old family house here to anchor a bread program on, and there are several companies that went from nothing to hundreds of accounts inside a decade. Slow Dough now claims over 500 wholesale accounts, buys 80,000 pounds of flour a week and runs 15 of its own trucks; Cake&Bacon claims over 450 restaurants, hotels and schools plus nearly 100 coffee shop pastry programs.

One of the two obvious ingredient sources is a private equity platform

If you buy bakery ingredients in Houston the two names you will reach for are BakeMark and Dawn, and one of them has had two private equity owners in a row. Clearlake Capital announced in July 2021 that it had signed a definitive agreement to acquire BakeMark USA from Pamplona Capital Management. Its owner describes it as a vertically integrated specialty distributor serving over 19,000 customers with more than 7,000 active SKUs. Knowing that before you quote it against a second source is the practical value of this section.

The other ownership facts here are quieter and more local. Quality Bakery Products still trades as a Houston company at a Houston address and turns 33 in 2026, and it is owned through a German group that bought out its founders' remaining shares in the early 2000s, per its own history page. Johnson Bros. Bakery Supply, whose Houston branch is on this page beside its Carrollton one on our Dallas page, acquired a Garland frozen dessert manufacturer in 2023.

And one row here is three names at one address. Celebrate Baking and Newberry Specialty Bakers both publish 14212 Interdrive West and both publish the identical sentence about striving to be a world class supplier of quality food products to the foodservice and grocery industry. Celebrate's own facility page then invokes a third name, Coastal Food, and a directory entry for Celebrate opens by describing Coastal Foods as a manufacturer of frozen bakery products. This directory lists it once, which is what one operation at one address deserves.

Sysco is on this page too, and the thing to know is the same thing the Houston seafood page says: Sysco was founded in Houston in 1970 and is still headquartered here, and bakery and bread is one of its named product categories. It is the benchmark the independents above are priced against, and unlike in most cities it is a local company.

A blank cell means the company does not list that line on its own site, not that it cannot get it. Most of these houses will source outside their published range for an account they want. Columns showing only one supplier are hidden to keep the grid readable.

Two industrial strips, and no market district anywhere

Plotting every verified address puts this trade in two industrial strips and nothing resembling a market district. There is a Spring Branch cluster around Blalock, Post Oak and the Katy Freeway holding three suppliers within a mile or so of each other, and a northern run through Interdrive West, Lockhaven, Veterans Memorial and Brittmore holding most of the manufacturers and ingredient houses. The rest sit where their customers are: Midtown, East Downtown, Bellaire, Aldine, Bissonnet.

That makes Houston the third city in this directory to produce the same finding by a different route. Dallas has no market building in its history at all. New York never had a wholesale bakery market because the trade ran on routes. Philadelphia's bakery trade never had a shared address either, which is why two companies emerged to be the middle. Houston has industrial strips and no floor to walk, so the price comparison here is a phone job, and the useful sort is by product.

For bread, the shortlist is Slow Dough, Kraftsmen, Cake&Bacon, Magnol and Common Bond, and three of those publish daily delivery with a named cut-off. For croissants specifically there are two dedicated houses, one with 600 accounts and one with 60, and the smaller requires an in-person tasting before it will open an account. For desserts there are three manufacturers, one selling only by the whole cake or the case. For pan dulce, conchas and Central American bread there are three panaderias with distribution arms. And for flour, mixes, fillings and packaging there are six supply houses, the oldest incorporated here in 1962.

One practical note on gaps, because this page has a few. Two suppliers publish no wholesale or production address: one lists nine retail cafes and nothing else, and one publishes its 1993 original store, which the listing says is a retail address rather than the distribution operation. One row is written from dated newspaper reporting because the company's own site returned a bot challenge on five paths across two engines, and its zip code is left blank because two third parties disagree on it and neither is the company. Three suppliers publish no phone number at all.

1

Ask a supply house who its customers are

One on this page says its team is fluent in English, Spanish and Khmer, which tells you more about Houston's bakery trade than any market report. The languages a supplier hires for are the trade it actually serves.

2

For croissants, go to a croissant house

Two suppliers here make almost nothing else, one serving 600 donut shops and bakeries and one serving 60 coffee shops. Neither is a bread bakery with a pastry line, and the difference shows in the lamination.

3

Check who owns your ingredient supplier

Of the two obvious bakery-ingredient sources in Houston, one has had two private equity owners in a row and one is German-owned. Both are legitimate; neither is on its own front page.

4

Do not use age as a proxy here

Nothing that bakes wholesale in Houston is older than 1962 and most of it is younger than 2009. Two of the largest suppliers went from nothing to hundreds of accounts inside a decade. Ask about capacity and cut-offs instead.

What people say about buying bakery in Houston

I recommend Magnol Bakery if you don't mind driving in. They mostly do wholesale, but they have a little store front where you can purchase from. They do preorders online, and Sunday mornings there is always a line outside. If you can't drive in, then breadman co is great bc it's widely available.

They sell slow dough (Texas toast, white bread, pretzel buns, challah buns) at H-E-B and Whole Foods now also. So good

Slow Dough bakery makes some of the best sourdough. Some of their breads can be picked up at Whole Foods. Tres Markets in near Town & Country carries their sourdough.

I have yet to go here, but I've heard good things: Royal Bakery in montrose. Unsure if they do burger Buns, but I believe they bake the bread for some local restaurants.

I like the Weights and Measures baguette. All of their pastries look great, but I unfortunately have had to restrain myself from trying them. Mademoiselle Louise is a relative new comer and the chef is from France. I’ve also enjoyed their baguette. Their other offerings look great too. Edit: I almost forgot Nancy’s Hustle. The bread they make in house is delicious. They usually have some variation of a porridge sourdough (a la tartine). Their food is incredible too. Also, There are 3 bakeries at the Urban Harvest Farmers market. Could be a good way to try a lot at once. Artisana, Angela’s oven, and Breadman.

Minimum order quantity…. Which is typically associated to B2B sales… in this case, they make you buy three bagels at a time.

Pulled from r/houston and r/HoustonFood. All four themes are demographic rather than product categories, which is this page's argument: Houston's bakery trade runs in at least six languages and one of its supply houses says so on its own site. The banh mi theme carries the one thread this research could not verify from a company capture, and the article presents it as the corpus's claim rather than a supplier's. Its own corpus: no comment here appears on any other page of this site. Comments are unedited and link back to the original thread. They are individual experiences, not evidence about any distributor in general, and we deliberately do not aggregate them into a score.

Questions

Bakery distributors in Houston: common questions

Who are the largest wholesale bakeries in Houston?

Slow Dough Bread Co. by its own numbers: over 500 wholesale accounts, 80,000 pounds of flour a week, more than 150 products and 15 of its own trucks delivering daily to Houston, Austin and San Antonio. Cake&Bacon claims over 450 restaurants, hotels and schools plus nearly 100 coffee shop pastry programs. Kraftsmen runs a 20,000 square foot plant with nearly 100 staff and over 300 customers. Bread Man raised output to as much as 30,000 pieces a day after a 2021 plant move.

Where can a Houston coffee shop buy wholesale croissants?

Two suppliers here make little else. Croissants Wholesale of Texas on Mills Road has handmade croissants to order for more than 15 years and says it now services over 600 local donut shops, bakeries, cake shops and restaurants. Love Croissants in Midtown serves over 60 of the city's coffee shops and restaurants and requires an in-person tasting with its wholesale team before opening a new account. Cake&Bacon, Kraftsmen and Magnol all carry croissants within wider pastry lines.

Who supplies Houston's donut shops?

It is the largest single wholesale account type in this city's bakery trade, and the suppliers reflect it. Croissants Wholesale lists donut shops first among its 600 accounts. Texas Bakery Supply's Houston branch states that its team is fluent in English, Spanish and Khmer, which matters because reporting on the trade estimates around 90 percent of Houston's doughnut shops are Cambodian-owned. Quality Bakery Products, BakeMark and Dawn all supply the fillings, mixes, icings and glazes.

Which Houston suppliers make pan dulce and Latin American bread?

Three. Arandas Bakery opened on Airline Drive in June 1993 as the first Mexican panaderia of its kind in Houston, has six locations and distributes pan dulce, conchas and tortillas nationally through partners. Panificadora Lempira, founded 2014 by two brothers from San Pedro Sula, is by its own account one of the largest distributors of Central American style bread in the city and supplies more than 100 grocery stores. Del Comal Tortilla Factory in Aldine manufactures tortilla products.

What is the oldest bakery in Houston?

The oldest still baking wholesale is Roland's Swiss Pastry & Bakery, serving Houston since 1962. The oldest continuously used wholesale bakery site is on Washington Avenue, trades under the Sunbeam name and belongs to Flowers Foods; a Houston retail-history site records that it began as Schott's Bakery in 1893 and that Flowers bought Schott's in 1981, and we attribute that rather than state it, because the company itself publishes none of it.

Are there bakery ingredient suppliers in Houston?

Six on this page, and they sell to bakers rather than baking for the table. Quality Bakery Products makes premium fillings and turns 33 in 2026. Consolidated Mills was incorporated here in 1962 and runs over 50,000 square feet of contract packaging. BakeMark and Dawn Foods both run Houston branches. Texas Bakery Supply's Houston company has traded since 2011, and Johnson Bros. runs a Houston distribution center. Note that Texas Bakery Supply Houston and the similarly named Dallas company are two different businesses.

Who supplies Houston's banh mi shops?

We could not verify it, and this page says so rather than guessing. The operator comments below name a particular bakery as supplying many of the city's banh mi shops, and Houston has a substantial Vietnamese bakery trade along Bellaire Boulevard. No Houston Vietnamese bakery we captured makes a wholesale claim on its own website, and one candidate's domain has expired. So it appears here as what the corpus says, attributed to the corpus, and not as a supplier listing.

How were these Houston bakery listings verified, and who is missing?

Every address and claim was read from the company's own website in September 2026, with one exception the row declares: Bread Man Baking Co. returned a bot challenge on five paths across two engines, so its listing comes from dated Houston Chronicle reporting and its zip is blank because two third parties disagree on it. Two companies publish no wholesale address and their rows say so. A Louisiana bakery and an Austin tortilla company both surfaced in Houston searches and are excluded.

A note on what is missing

Two known gaps. Greco and Sons, a large Chicago Italian foodservice distributor now being acquired by Sysco, is not listed because its site blocked our capture and we would not write it up from third-party sources. Stock Yards is a US Foods brand rather than an independent distributor, so it appears under US Foods rather than as its own listing. If you run a Houston bakery distribution business and we have missed you, that is an omission rather than a judgement.

Listings verified September 2026. Details change; always confirm terms on a call.
