Bakery distributors in Atlanta

Four of this metro's wholesale bakeries were bought by somebody else inside eleven years, and three of the buyers were private equity platforms. That matters when you are shortlisting, because two artisan bread names on your list can turn out to be one company. Every step of it is on the buyers' own websites, and this page lays out who owns whom.

  • 19 suppliers, each read off the company's own website in September 2026, except one sourced from a state market roster and marked as such.
  • Thirteen bake. Four sell ingredients, packaging or tools to people who bake. Two are broadline or cash and carry.
  • No paid placements and no rankings. Filter by what they carry, who they sell to and how you can buy.

Restaurant Depot, Ellsworth

Cash and carryNorthwest Atlanta

A wholesale cash and carry foodservice supplier with five warehouses across metro Atlanta, at Ellsworth Industrial Boulevard in the city and at Buford, Marietta, Morrow and Norcross. Membership is free, there is no minimum purchase, and the warehouses open seven days a week. Sysco Atlanta

National broadlineCollege Park

The Atlanta operating company of the largest foodservice distributor in the United States, at College Park beside the airport. Its own Atlanta page carries no seafood product list, so its place on the seafood page rests on its federal shellfish shipper certificate as Sysco Atlanta LLC and on the Georgia Shrimp Association naming it among certified distributors. The same page does lead its product showcase with items from Sysco's own bakery brand, Baker's Source, which is the whole of its bakery evidence here.

  • Holds a Georgia shellfish shipper certificate
  • On the Georgia Shrimp Association distributor list
  • Publishes no seafood product detail for this location

Engelman's Bakery

Regional distributorNorcrossEst. 1983

A Norcross bakery that calls itself a leading wholesale bakery, founded in 1983 by Sammy Engelman and his sister Miriam Engelman Gur-Lavi, whose parents ran a bakery in Israel before moving to New York in 1961. In its own words, what started as a full-line retail bakery gradually evolved into a 100 percent wholesale operation, and in 1997 it moved into its current 50,000 square foot SQF certified facility in Norcross. It runs fresh, frozen and private label programs for foodservice, distributors and retail. Shoreline Equity Partners invested in February 2020, and Engelman's has since acquired two other bakeries, H&F Bread Co in 2020 and St. Armands Baking Co in 2024.

Crown Bakeries

National broadlineNorcross

The Atlanta plant of a Brentwood, Tennessee baking group. It was Masada Bakery until The Bun Companies acquired it in 2014, and Crown's own timeline describes the Atlanta bakery as having bagel, bun, bread and pastry lines, delivering product to over 1,400 customers in the southeastern US. The group renamed itself The Bakery Cos. in 2015, took private equity investment from Arbor Investments in 2019, and rebranded as Crown Bakeries in 2021. Its Norcross page takes online orders from businesses across the southeast. The street address comes from a University of Georgia Extension co-packer list, under the plant's former name and with the phone number Crown publishes today; Crown itself publishes only its Tennessee headquarters.

Molino Tortilleria

Local specialistChamblee and Doraville

A three-ingredient tortilleria selling only to restaurants, nixtamalizing organic corn overnight and grinding it on volcanic stone mills. Its own copy sets itself against the supply chain most kitchens use, arguing that most restaurant tortillas travel through a factory, a warehouse, a truck and a distributor shelf before they reach a kitchen, which is five to ten days of aging before service. It says it serves 50 or more Atlanta restaurants and names them, including Rreal Tacos, Superica, Little Rey, Beto's Tacos, Vice Taco and Pure Taqueria. It sells tortillas, fresh masa and ready-to-fry chips, and will deliver warm samples to a kitchen with no obligation.

Southern Sweets Bakery

Local specialistDecaturEst. 1992

A Decatur bakery that started as a wholesale dessert supplier and added retail afterwards, which is the reverse of the usual order. Its own history says it got its humble start in 1992 when a friend of Nancy Cole encouraged her to talk to the general manager of an established Atlanta steakhouse looking for a source of apple and pecan pies, and that she was soon baking pies and cakes for that steakhouse along with many of Atlanta's top restaurants and hotels. The wholesale line still runs traditional, customized, vegan, gluten free and seasonal desserts served daily throughout metro Atlanta, priced on order size.

  • Started as a wholesale dessert supplier in 1992, retail came later
  • Will bake to your recipe or develop one for your approval

Oriental Bakery

Local specialistBuford Highway

A Buford Highway bakery whose own page title is Retail and Wholesale Bakery. It describes a range of traditional Chinese bakery products, with fresh bread, toasts and pastries available for pickup, and says it believes its bread is only as good as the ingredients it uses. It publishes nothing else about trade terms, so this row is thin.

  • Retail and wholesale from one Buford Highway counter

Sweet Red Peach

Local specialistDowntown

An Atlanta dessert bakery with a downtown location and a second at Lee + White on the Westside, and a wholesale inquiry channel alongside its retail and event business. Its wholesale page is an inquiry form rather than a published program, so the trade claim here is real but unelaborated: nothing on its site states minimums, lead times or delivery.

  • Two Atlanta locations, Downtown and Lee + White

El Gigante Bakery

Local specialistAtlanta State Farmers Market

The only bakery among the 57 shed-tenant rows and 41 wholesale dealers the Georgia Department of Agriculture lists for the Atlanta State Farmers Market at Forest Park. The state's roster gives the business name, the operator, the shed, the stalls it holds and a phone number, and that is everything we could verify: the business publishes no website this research could find, so nothing here describes what it bakes.

  • The market's only bakery tenant
  • Shed 9, stalls 17 to 24

Four bakeries, eleven years, and two of them are now lines inside other companies

Masada Bakery in Norcross was acquired by The Bun Companies of Nashville on 14 October 2014. The buyer's own timeline describes what it bought: an Atlanta bakery with bagel, bun, bread and pastry lines, delivering to over 1,400 customers in the southeastern US. That group renamed itself The Bakery Cos. in 2015, took private equity investment from Arbor Investments in 2019, and rebranded as Crown Bakeries in 2021. The plant is still on Oakbrook Drive.

H&F Bread Company, described in the announcement as a wholesale bakery offering artisan breads primarily to restaurants across Georgia, was acquired by Engelman's Bakery on 30 September 2020. That was Engelman's first acquisition, eight months after Shoreline Equity Partners invested in it, and the release says the quiet part plainly: this is the first move in a plan to acquire bakeries and grow across the Southeastern United States. Engelman's bought St. Armands Baking Company of Bradenton, Florida in June 2024.

The Grateful Bread Co. of Smyrna, which had supplied artisan breads and pastries to metro Atlanta hotels, restaurants and caterers since 1999, was acquired by Henri's Bakery & Deli, an Atlanta business dating to 1929, in a deal that closed on 1 July 2024. And Atlanta Cheesecake Company of Kennesaw, founded 1988, went to Dessert Holdings, the platform private equity firm Gryphon Investors built to hold its premium dessert brands.

Here is why that belongs on a buying page rather than in a business section. This directory's standing advice is to keep a second supplier so you have some leverage on price. In Atlanta you can shortlist two well-known artisan bread names and find that one is a line inside Engelman's and the other a line inside Henri's. Before you treat two quotes as competing quotes, check the ownership, and the companies' own announcement pages are where to check it.

The count column is computed from the listings above. The rest describes how each business model typically works, not a term any individual company has published. Minimums and delivery days are always set per account, so treat this as a shortlist tool, not a quote.

The state's wholesale market has one bakery in it

The Georgia Department of Agriculture publishes two rosters for the Atlanta State Farmers Market at Forest Park: 57 shed-tenant rows and 41 wholesale dealers. Across both lists exactly one is a bakery. Everything else is produce, flowers, dairy or grocery.

Count those rosters carefully if you ever use them, because 57 rows is not 57 businesses: several operators hold two or three separate stall blocks and appear more than once. The safe statements are the row counts, which is why they are the numbers used here.

We are not going to tell you Atlanta never had a bakery district, because we did not research that and have no evidence either way. What is verified is the present tense: the one place in this metro that looks like a wholesale food market has essentially no bread in it, and the supply base sits in industrial parks across five counties instead.

That scatter is the practical geography. The two largest independents are in Norcross and on the Chamblee and Doraville line. The tortilla trade is on Atlanta Industrial Parkway and Presidential Parkway. The dessert bakeries are in Decatur and Marietta. The ingredient houses are at Lilburn, on the Westside and out at Lithia Springs in Douglas County, which is outside the five counties this metro's own suppliers usually name. Nothing clusters, so delivery day and delivery radius matter more here than proximity does.

19 suppliers in view. Bars count suppliers carrying each product line, so they add up to more than 19: most suppliers carry several.

Three different businesses share this page, and you buy from them differently

Thirteen of these companies bake. That group runs from two plants at real industrial scale, one rebuilt in 2021 at 176,000 square feet and one a 50,000 square foot SQF certified facility, down to a restaurant group's own wholesale bakery that supplies about 45 named Atlanta kitchens and publishes no street address at all.

Four do not bake anything. They sell to people who do: ingredients, mixes, fillings, chocolate, decorating products, professional tools, and in one case only packaging. That last one is on this page because its own home page heading names bakeries as a customer type, and its row says plainly that what it sells is paper goods rather than baked goods. Mixing those two kinds of supplier up is easy to do from a search result and expensive to do on a purchase order.

One of the ingredient houses is worth calling out because it names the gap it was built to fill. It opened in October 2017 to give the Atlanta area access to high-quality pastry products without requiring a membership or an account with a large distributor, and it runs a public store, an online shop and wholesale accounts side by side. If you are too small for a broadline account, that sentence is the most useful one on this page.

Two more rows are a national broadliner and a cash and carry chain with five metro warehouses, and both are listed narrowly on purpose. One features two products from its own bakery brand on its Atlanta page. The other names bakery supplies once, on its national home page. Neither publishes a bakery department, a bakery team or a delivery schedule for this metro, and we have not written them one.

A blank cell means the company does not list that line on its own site, not that it cannot get it. Most of these houses will source outside their published range for an account they want. Columns showing only one supplier are hidden to keep the grid readable.

The tortilla trade and the Buford Highway corridor are both wholesale here

Two of the largest bakers on this page make tortillas rather than bread. One has been trading in Atlanta since 1979, calls itself one of the largest tortilla suppliers in the United States, runs plants in Atlanta and Orlando and supplies quick service chains, fast casual groups, foodservice distributors and retail private label. The other is the opposite proposition: a tortilleria that sells only to restaurants, nixtamalizes organic corn overnight, grinds it on volcanic stone mills, and names more than 50 Atlanta restaurants it supplies.

That second company's own copy makes an argument worth repeating because it is about distribution rather than about corn. It says most restaurant tortillas travel through a factory, a warehouse, a truck and a distributor shelf before they reach a kitchen, which is five to ten days of aging before service. Whether or not you buy from them, that is the right question to ask any supplier about a perishable staple.

The Buford Highway corridor carries a second wholesale trade. A Korean bakery cafe group with five metro locations runs a wholesale program inviting retailers to stock its breads and pastries, and a Doraville bakery titles its own page Retail and Wholesale Bakery and sells traditional Chinese bakery products across a counter. Both rows are thinner than the industrial plants above, because both publish far less about trade terms, and their cards show that rather than filling it in.

The dessert side has its own shape. One Decatur bakery started as a wholesale supplier in 1992, after a friend suggested its founder approach a steakhouse looking for a source of apple and pecan pies, and added retail later, which is the reverse of the usual order. A Marietta bakery works entirely gluten free in a certified facility, which is a genuine sourcing constraint rather than a marketing line, and it takes most wholesale items by pre-order.

Where these rows came from, and the two companies that are missing

Eighteen of these 19 rows are written from the company's own website. The nineteenth is the market tenant, and everything on that card is what the state roster gives: a business name, an operator, a shed, the stalls it holds and a phone number. We have deliberately not said what it bakes, because the roster does not say and its name is not evidence.

Two companies that would obviously belong here are absent, and naming them is more honest than a quiet omission. One is the most frequently named wholesale bakery in Atlanta search results and appears twice in the Reddit corpus below. Its own website returns an error to our capture tool, and the only company-authored description of it anywhere is its LinkedIn page. Whether a company-run social profile counts as the company's own website is a question this directory has never settled, so we took the conservative answer and left it out rather than quietly changing the rule.

The second is a Stone Mountain bakery that appears on a University of Georgia Extension co-packer list. Its own site also blocks capture, and the list was last revised in 2020, which is too old to evidence a business still trading. Being on a state co-packer list is a real trade claim, and this directory has published thin state-sourced rows before, but not ones we cannot date.

A few smaller judgment calls are worth stating. One bakery's street address comes from that same state extension list under the plant's former name, matched to the phone number the current owner publishes, and its card says so. One company's own press release gives a founding year one year adrift of its own history page, so we used the year three sources agree on. And one restaurant-group bakery sits next door to a restaurant whose address is public; we left its street blank rather than borrow it, because the restaurant's address is not the bakery's.

Alon’s is fine, but people built it up so much that it has never met my expectations. I think The General Muir, Evergreen, Little Tart and La Calavera are all better than Alon’s but it’s not big deal. Alon’s also sells a lot of stuff wholesale, so if you get a day old pastry in a coffee shop it might make you think less of Alon’s (even if it’s the coffeehouse’s fault for selling stale patty).

Anything but Alon’s. Ever since they distribute pastries to every to every other cafe ITP, they’ve gone so downhill. Little Tart and Galette are my faves!

There’s a lot of good recommendations in here, but a lot are more for pastry than for bread. And then others don’t make a pecan/cranberry type. The best bread bakeries locally are Evergreen, Collette (Bread is Good), Osono, Star Provisions, TGM Bread (general Muir), and the Buttery (though not as good as the others IMO). TGM always has a loaf similar to the one you asked about, as does the Buttery. Evergreen does on certain days. Osono usually does but they are only at farmers markets on Thursdays and Sundays. Colette is also in the process of opening and doing random pop ups and deliveries. I don’t believe the others I mentioned do a sweet loaf.

There is a pretty bad shortage of legitimate bakeries in ATL. Honestly, in the NE side your best bet is probably going to be whole foods. It isn't the best, but it is at least baked fresh there. Also, surprisingly costco's bread from the bakery is pretty good. Another option would be Alon's in Phipps, or Eli's in Chamblee, but they are only open to the public on Friday and sell out fast. You might not get sourdough, but whatever you do get is awesome.

Pulled from r/Atlanta and r/Georgia plus baking threads whose titles name the metro, collected in September 2026 and quoted unedited. Two of these commenters name a wholesale bakery this page does not list, which is a good illustration of the rule: Reddit is editorial here and is never the source of a listing fact. Its own corpus: no comment here appears on any other page of this site. Comments are unedited and link back to the original thread. They are individual experiences, not evidence about any distributor in general, and we deliberately do not aggregate them into a score.

Bakery distributors in Atlanta: common questions

How many wholesale bakeries are there in Atlanta?

We verified 19 suppliers, of which 13 actually bake. The other six are bakery ingredient and packaging houses and two broadline or cash and carry options. Nobody publishes a count of wholesale bakeries in this metro, past or present, and we are not going to invent one: 19 is the number whose details we could read from a source and stand behind.

Are any Atlanta bakeries owned by the same company?

Yes, and it is the single most useful thing on this page. H&F Bread Company was acquired by Engelman's Bakery in September 2020, and The Grateful Bread Co. was acquired by Henri's Bakery & Deli in a deal that closed on 1 July 2024. Masada Bakery became part of what is now Crown Bakeries in 2014, and Atlanta Cheesecake Company went to a private equity dessert platform. Check ownership before you treat two quotes as competing quotes.

Is there a bakery district or wholesale bread market in Atlanta?

Not now. The Georgia Department of Agriculture's two rosters for the Atlanta State Farmers Market list 57 shed-tenant rows and 41 wholesale dealers, and exactly one of them is a bakery. The supply base is scattered across industrial parks in five counties instead. We did not research whether the metro ever had a bakery district, so we make no claim about the past.

Can a small restaurant buy from these suppliers without a big account?

Some, yes. One Westside pastry supply store was opened in 2017 specifically to give Atlanta access to high-quality pastry products without a membership or an account with a large distributor, and it runs a public store alongside wholesale accounts. A cash and carry chain with five metro warehouses takes free membership and sets no minimum purchase. Several of the bakeries here also sell across a counter as well as delivering.

Who supplies bread to Atlanta restaurants?

Several of the companies here do, and one is unusually transparent about it: a restaurant group's own wholesale bakery names about 45 Atlanta kitchens it supplies on its own site, including well-known names. Two larger plants run foodservice bread programs at industrial scale, and one of them says it delivers to over 1,400 customers across the southeast. Reddit commenters name other suppliers, and those comments are published below as opinion rather than used as sourcing.

Are there wholesale tortilla suppliers in Atlanta?

Two of the biggest bakers on this page make tortillas. One has traded here since 1979, runs plants in Atlanta and Orlando and supplies quick service chains, distributors and retail private label. The other sells only to restaurants, grinds organic corn on stone mills and names more than 50 Atlanta restaurants as customers. They are very different purchases and both are listed.

What is missing from this page?

Two companies that belong here. One is a frequently named artisan wholesale bakery whose own website blocks our capture tool, leaving only a LinkedIn page, and this directory has never settled whether a company-run social profile counts as the company's own site. The other appears on a state extension co-packer list last revised in 2020, which is too old to show a business is still trading. Both are named rather than quietly dropped.

How were these Atlanta bakery listings verified?

Each was read off the company's own site and captured to file in September 2026, except one row taken from the Georgia Department of Agriculture's market tenant roster, which says so on the card. Where a company publishes no address or phone, the field is empty because it published none. No distributor paid to be listed, and the directory is published by VoiceOrder Solutions, an ordering software company, which is disclosed in the footer of every page.
