Methodology
How we research this directory
Last updated September 2026
The failure mode for a directory is confident-sounding numbers nobody checked. These are the rules we work to, written down so you can hold the pages to them.
No fact about a company is written from memory
Every address, phone number, revenue figure and company claim is read off a source document that we captured and dated. If we could not capture it, it does not appear. This sounds obvious and almost no directory does it: most recycle the same third-party listings, which is why the same wrong phone number propagates across a dozen sites.
Revenue only where the company published it
Of the 10 national distributors we list, 4 publish net sales in a filing or investor release. The other 6 are private and disclose nothing, so we print "not disclosed" instead of borrowing an estimate. A ranking that assigns a precise figure to a private company is guessing, however confident the table looks.
Gaps are shown, not filled
Some companies do not publish a street address, a phone number, or their delivery minimum. We leave the field out and say so on the page. An empty field is more useful than a plausible invention, because you can act on knowing something is unknown.
We do not rank, rate or score suppliers
There is no star rating anywhere on this site and no aggregateRating in our structured data. We have not audited these companies' cut quality or service, so any score we invented would be decoration. Listings are ordered by supplier type and, on the national table, by reported size.
Reddit is a signal, never a verdict
Operator comments are quoted verbatim, linked to the original thread, and tagged by theme. They are individual experiences, not evidence about a company in general. We never aggregate them into a number and never emit them as review schema. Each market page gets its own corpus, researched for that city, rather than the homepage's comments repeated.
Pending things stay pending
Where we cover something unresolved, such as the Sysco and Restaurant Depot transaction, it is dated and written as pending. We would rather a page read as of September 2026 than imply a deal has closed when regulators are still reviewing it.
No supplier paid to be here
There are no affiliate links to any distributor and no paid placements. The directory is published by VoiceOrder Solutions, an ordering software company, and that relationship is disclosed in the footer of every page, on this page, and in our terms. It pays for the research; it does not decide who is listed or in what order.
We say what we left out
Each market page carries a note listing companies we deliberately excluded and why, usually because their site blocked capture or because they are a brand of a larger distributor rather than an independent business. If we have missed you, that is an omission rather than a judgement.
How a market page actually gets built
Every city page goes through the same sequence. It is slow on purpose.
- 1Search passes to build a candidate list of every distributor operating in that category and metro.
- 2Capture each candidate's own website and read the details off it. Anything that blocks capture is excluded rather than filled in from a third-party listing.
- 3Record every fact with its source in a verified-facts file, so a claim can be traced back years later.
- 4Mine that city's public Reddit threads separately for operator comments, then hand-pick and screen them.
- 5Write the local article from what the captures actually said, and compute every statistic from the listings themselves so the analysis cannot drift from the data.
Corrections
If a listing is wrong, out of date, or you would like your company removed, email hello@usfooddistributors.com. We correct rather than argue, and there is no charge for anything, including removal. You can also read who publishes this.
